96 Points James Halliday. Gold, Winewise Small Vignerons Wine Show 2013.
“The Tuerong Pinot comes from an old 4-acre block on the edge of Tuerong and Dromana. Very much a ‘down the hill’ vineyard and our warmest Pinot site. Always a bigger, more generous black-fruited wine with lots of spice and baked earth. With such powerful fruit, we started experimenting many years ago with whole bunch fermentation and carbonic maceration. We loved the outcome and since 2012 the wine has always had a portion of whole bunch. The technique adds a savoury and mineral complexity and evokes descriptors like graphite and iodine. Strange terms but they complement the powerful fruit beautifully. The whole bunch also gives a curvaceous, flowing mouthfeel. Seductive stuff.” Anthony Jones, Montalto Director of Wine.

“Has the deepest colour of the Montalto '12 Pinots, the bouquet and palate more profound, with blood plum and black cherry to the fore, and all the structure needed for lengthy cellaring, during which more ethereal characters will develop.”
