“The Montalto Chardonnay is traditionally built on a core of citrus fruit (lime, lemon, tangerine, grapefruit), but in 2018, the warmer season has added an extra layer of white fleshed stone fruits. Wet stone, white florals, a lick of sulphides and spicy oak all chime in to play their part. The influence of French oak adds to the chewy richness and mouth feel of the wine, before finishing with bright and energetic naturally acidity.”

Matchstick, intensity of citrus and nectarine, burst of flavour with flinty chalkiness, mouth-watering acidity that’s non-abrasive, a little almond and spice on a very long zesty finish. Wonderful.
Gary Walsh, 2019
Fleshy white nectarines and peach combine with vanilla and creamy oak playing second fiddle. Dashes of Jersey caramel, flaked almonds and nougat add interest. The palate is filled generously with wonderful width and beautiful textural feels brushed on with a soft touch. And that length! So good. Did I say a cuddle for the insides?
Steve Leszczynski, 2019
|Our Montalto label represents the best parcels of fruit from our Estate Vineyards. Balanced vine physiology and meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard ensure premium quality. The Lion’s share of this Chardonnay comes from our prized home vineyard in Red Hill South. Ultimately, we’re looking to create wines with balance that encompass complexity, concentration and finesse with the potential for longevity. Our picking decisions reflect our desire to target citrus, floral and mineral qualities hinting towards some stone fruits. Our sugars correspond to alcohols in the high 12’s and low 13’s and natural acidity provide drive and tension.|
