"The charm of the Tuerong Pinot Noir begins with its complex nose. A plethora of aromas including bramble, Ink, cola, sarsaparilla, beets, parsnips, charcuterie, earth and a waft of cinnamon stick. On the palate, polished supple mulberry and blackberry fruits combine with spice, earthiness and mouth-coating chalky tannins on a long savoury finish. It’s a wine that invites you to revisit it again and again to contemplate its evolution over time."

Simon Black, Chief Winemaker.

REVIEWS

"There’s buoyant fruit here but it’s otherwise dry and structural, with more than its fair share of undergrowth, earth and general herb notes. It would be valid to pull out the old Campari reference here, because it has that edge, though it’s in the context of pure strawberry and forest berry fruit flavours. Tannin is dry and twiggy, oak has a meaty smokiness to it, though the fruit juices straight on through both."

Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

"This Tuerong is probably the most generous of the Montalto Single Vineyard Pinots. The Merricks is all things savoury, North One is pretty and this is muscular and measured not to mention that there are some Central Otago vibes going on here... It's long, persistent and moreish. I could get awfully comfortable here. Excellent stuff.” Score 95/100.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Hand harvested and hand sorted grapes were destemmed and cold soaked for 3 and 7 days prior to the onset of wild fermentation. 42% of the blend underwent 2 weeks carbonic maceration before being destemmed, with fermentation finishing on the skins. Following pressing, the wine was lightly racked to French oak barriques (32% new) for natural malolactic fermentation and 11 months maturation.
