“A classically vibrant and moreish Pennon Hill Pinot Noir. Fruit for the 2023 release comes from our elevated Red Hill vineyards (35%) and our warmer Tuerong sites (65%) at the northern end of the Peninsula.
Lively aromas of cherry liqueur, milk chocolate, orange blossom and sage suggest a wine that’s both eminently drinkable yet complex. On the palate there’s bucket loads of red fruits in the form of ripe red cherry plus chinotto and classic Mornington Campari. Fresh acidity across the mid palate enhances the sense of life and vibrancy before an array of spice and structural tannin take over for a long savoury finish. A wine of energy, presence, freshness and weight. An outstanding example of Pennon Hill Pinot Noir.”
Chief Winemaker, Simon Black.
“The fruit for this Syrah came from two sites in Tuerong at the northern end of the Peninsula. A medium bodied and vibrant Syrah boasting all the typical characteristics expected from a cool climate style. The nose offers a complex array of fresh red fruits, think dark cherries, blood plums and raspberries. The fruit is supported by pepper, a little ink, olive, nutmeg, and black tea. Juicy fruit flavours of raspberry, plums and cherry combine on the palate supported by some white pepper, bay leaf, and subtle hint of liquorice. Supple tannins and bright acid make this a moreish and versatile food wine.”
Chief Winemaker, Simon Black.
“Consistency and excellence have been the secret to the Mornington Peninsula’s flourishing reputation for Chardonnay. It’s a status I’m sure will only be enhanced by the 2023 vintage. This Pennon Hill Chardonnay is made in a ready to drink style, while maintaining the quality and esteem for which Montalto wines are acclaimed. Although made in limited quantities and largely reserved for our wine club members, we’re pleased to offer this wine as an online exclusive while stocks last.
Aromas of peach, white nectarine, and grapefruit meld with subtle notes of cinnamon and roasted hazelnut. On the palate the zesty drive of citrus compliments the generosity of stone fruit, delivering a focused and vibrant wine.”
Chief Winemaker, Simon Black.

“Cold and frosty mornings see our delicate crops move into the warmth of our polytunnels while our winter crops of kales, broccoli and cabbages are sweetening with the cold.
Our orchard and berries are receiving a much-needed prune to ensure an abundant summer crop, and our chickens take a break from egg production and turn their attention to scratching around under our bare fruit trees for insects.
Growth in our gardens slow with the cooler soils and I am grateful for the quiet pause before spring awakens our dormant trees and vines and I start preparing our produce beds for the warmer months to come.”
Julie Bennett, Produce Manager
