We’re thrilled to share that 10 Montalto wines have achieved 95 points and above in this year’s Halliday Wine Companion!
“Scores of 95 and above for 10 of our wines in the 2025 Halliday Wine Companion reflect the commitment of our vineyard and winery teams led by Simon Black (Chief Winemaker / General Manager – Wine) and Dan Prior (Vineyard Manager). In Halliday scoring, that’s an impressive 10 Gold Medals! These results, with fruit from our 6 Peninsula-wide vineyard sites, builds on our history of consistency and cutting-edge winemaking. As a team, we will continue on this journey.”
To celebrate these amazing results, we’re holding a 7-day wine sale featuring 3 of our award-winners!
"The colour is outrageous – a vibrant black purple shot with ruby. Heady aromas come in next all floral and spicy with a touch of meaty reduction and wood smoke with some nori, too. While it snaps, crackles and pops with juicy, tangy fruit, this is savoury – a big part of its appeal. Some licorice infuses the black plums, the tannins ripe, slightly gritty and textural covering the mid-weighted palate with ease. Syrah made by a pinot noir specialist. Nice one."
Jane Faulkner, 2025 Halliday Wine Companion
"A great expression of Syrah, possesses some flex and grip. Beautiful drinking."

"Typical cool climate white pepper blends with Allspice, blackberries, olive and Queens Garnet plum. On the palate this medium bodied Syrah has a core of juicy dark fruit including boysenberry, plum and blueberry balanced with subtle coffee grinds and dark chocolate, pepper and finally a subtle umami character."

BUY 2023 MONTALTO SYRAH
"Oh, yes, a glass of this makes everything better. Full of struck match and citrus, grilled blanched almonds and mouth-watering acidity. The palate builds with flavour and depth, but the gossamer thread of acidity leads to a lingering finish."
Jane Faulkner, 2025 Halliday Wine Companion
“A single vineyard wine made from our home vineyard in Red Hill South. Comprised of 59% North Face block (clone P58) and 41% South Face block (clone I10V1). Our Estate Chardonnay is built on a core of citrus fruit together stone fruits of nectarine and white peach. After some challenging weather events in late spring, impacting yields, the weather Gods provided perfect conditions leading into harvest. Slate and flint, lemon curd, crème brulee, lime splice, roasted hazelnuts, white florals, a lick of sulphides all chime in to play their part. The influence of spicy French oak compliments the generous fruit profile which is tied together with bright and energetic naturally acidity and a textural, creamy finish."

BUY 2022 MONTALTO CHARDONNAY
"At first, this comes across as pretty, tangy and juicy, enticing with its heady aromas and flavours. But there’s detail and structure, too. In the mix, rose petals, red and black cherries with exotic spices – almost an Indian combo of cardamon and turmeric. The palate is layered with superfine tannins and matching acidity. A very satisfying drink."
Jane Faulkner, 2025 Halliday Wine Companion
"There is a lot to embrace and even more to enjoy. An excellent Pinot!"

"A nose of dark cherry and Black Dorris plum combine with blueberry, bramble and crushed sage along with some oak-inspired coffee grind notes. On the palate the wine displays more red fruits than the nose suggests- think red cherry, raspberry and blueberry. Bright and fresh, yet silky and structured with present, integrated tannin. The long finish leaves a lingering hint of Negroni and blood orange."
Simon Black, Chief Winemaker
