MONTALTO GARDEN WORKSHOP: Pruning the old & planting the new

Expertly hosted in our estate gardens by our Produce Manager Julie Bennett, followed by lunch in The Restaurant with our Head Chef Diana Desensi and our Restaurant Manager Gauthier Georgelet.


Fruit tree pruning workshop


Date:     Monday 11th July


Time:      8.45am – 2.30pm


During this half day workshop, you’ll learn how to:


Identify different fruit trees and how (and why) we prune them


Identify pests and diseases and how best to remedy them


Prepare and plant your new fruit tree


Care for your fruit trees to ensure abundant seasonal harvests


We’ll supply:


Secateurs


Safety glasses


You’ll need to bring:


Gardening gloves


Waterproof footwear or gumboots


Raincoat


A sense of adventure


Join Julieas she shares over 20 years of experience, in-depth knowledge and passion for gardening and permaculture - an unmissable opportunity for keen gardeners of all ages and skill levels.


Workshop Schedule


8.45am   Warm up with a tea or coffee as Julie welcomes the group.


9.00am A quick tour through Wendy’s Garden and then onwards through the sculptures and up to the orchard.


Once in the orchard, the real education begins. Julie will show you through all the fruit trees – providing unparalleled knowledge garnered over a lifetime of passionate gardening.


10.30am  Morning tea – hot cuppas and warm scones enjoyed with a view out over the estate.


11.00am  Your turn! With your very own pair of secateurs, along with everything you learned earlier in the day, you’ll be given an opportunity to prune and plant a bare rooted fruit tree.


12.15pm Arrive at The Restaurant for an intimate group lunch personally hosted by our Head Chef Diana Desensi and our Restaurant Manager Gauthier Georgelet. Enjoy snacks, mains, dessert and a well-earned glass of Montalto Estate wine.


2.30pm  Official proceedings conclude, however you are welcome to stay and enjoy the afternoon wandering through the Sculpture Trail or simply take your time over a few extra wines (charged on consumption). Feel free to pop into The Cellar Door to taste or purchase any of our wines, or explore our Montalto Pantry Collection made from estate-grown produce – the Fallen Fruit Marmalade is the perfect expression of our estate orchards.
