A 1-day workshop, hosted by Montalto Produce Manager Julie Bennett, focusing on composting and starting your own worm farm.
Join Julie as she shares over 20 years of experience, in-depth knowledge and passion for gardening and permaculture - an unmissable opportunity for keen gardeners of all ages and skill levels.
The workshop will start with a cuppa and house-made snack where you’ll learn how and why this amazing kitchen garden started. You’ll learn about how Julie identifies and benefits from the property's different aspects and microclimates to get the highest yields for our chefs, the importance of soil, and how our waste goes full circle to produce rich, organic compost which is then spread over our growing areas to enrich our soils.
Workshop Schedule:
9.00 am Every good morning starts with a hot cup of tea and a housemade snack.
9.30 am Tour of the Montalto gardens and orchards whilst Julie explains what we grow, when and where.
10.30 am Hands-on workshop in the Montalto gardening shed - get your hands in the soil as Julie shares her unparalleled knowledge of sowing seeds for maximum flavour and abundance.
12.30 pm Warm up with a guided wine tasting at our exclusive Chef’s Table in The Restaurant - with the view of the vines to one side, the open kitchen (where your lunch is being prepared) to the other.
1.00 pm Enjoy a shared lunch (with a glass of your favourite wine from your tasting) featuring the very best of our estate-grown produce, presented by Julie Bennett and our Culinary Captain, Matt Wilkinson.
2.00 pm Official proceedings conclude however you are welcome to stay and enjoy the afternoon wandering through the Sculpture Trail or simply taking your time over a few extra wines (charged on consumption).
To get you started at home, you’ll also receive two packets of carefully selected seeds - personally saved by Julie Bennett and Wendy Mitchell.
Cost: $195 all-inclusive. Places are strictly limited. Bookings essential. Bring a coat, good walking shoes and possibly an umbrella if it looks like rain!
