Mornington Peninsula
‘’A beguiling wine that is revered here at Montalto. Initially this wine appears fragile and delicate with expressive aromatics. The palate shows sweet red fruits with some subtle darker characters of chinotto and Amaro liqueur. There’s a little spice, dried herbs and tea leaf combining for a savory mid palate that is then absorbed by bold pumice stone tannins. There is a fruit and tannin interplay at work here that should not coexist, yet this unique site makes it both possible and formidable.''

‘’Pretty, is the word that immediately comes to mind when tasting this. It’s also heady with florals and spice with a wisp of menthol. It’s full of sweet fruit, all cherries and pips strawberries and tangy blood orange, yet this is a subtle wine, lighter framed, even. Tannins are lacy and fine, acidity juicy with a mouth-watering succulence. The 2022s are for drinking now rather than extended cellaring. Given the delight of this, that’s fine by me.'' Score 95/100.

"Well this is just beautiful. It’s from a vineyard that was planted in 1990 and this year it’s produced a spicy, lengthy, well-structured release with all the fruit flesh you’d want, plus all the X-factor. We’re looking at sweet red cherry with earth and undergrowth underpinnings, and while it’s not a sour pinot noir there’s just a suggestion of sourness flitting about the edges, which works a treat here, especially with those spice notes, and that undergrowth, and that structure. This is super.” Score 95/100.
