The fruit for this Syrah came from two sites in Tuerong at the northern end of the Peninsula. A medium bodied and vibrant Syrah boasting all the typical characteristics expected from a cool climate style. The nose offers a complex array of fresh red fruits, think dark cherries, blood plums and raspberries. The fruit is supported by pepper, a little ink, olive, nutmeg, and black tea. Juicy fruit flavours of raspberry, plums and cherry combine on the palate supported by some white pepper, bay leaf, and subtle hint of liquorice. Supple tannins and bright acid make this a moreish and versatile food wine.

WINEMAKING NOTES

The fruit was hand harvested and de-stemmed into 2 tonne open fermenters, followed by a short cold maceration period of between 3 and 5 days before wild fermentation. At the completion of primary fermentation, the grapes were pressed, and the wine transferred to French oak barriques and puncheons (10.7% new) for malo-lactic fermentation followed by maturation for 11 months.
