"The Merricks Pinot Noir boasts a rich ruby red colour and purple hues. It opens with sweet mulberry fruit, maraschino cherry and Black Forest cake with some blood orange and blood plum fruit in support. The incorporation of whole bunch tempers the juiciness, creating a savoury line that compliments the plush structural tannins."

Simon Black, Chief Winemaker.

REVIEWS

"Highly perfumed with florals and wafts of exotic spices, from chermoula to sumac, with no shortage of just-cut herbs and raspberry leaf. It’s laden with cherries – fresh ones and compote, a little sweet-sour edge but juicy and vibrant with sinewy, if tooth-coating, tannins. All the single-site pinots highlight the acid drive of vintage ’23, and this too needs more time in bottle. But, if you can’t wait, decant and have hearty fare at the ready."

Jane Faulkner, 2025 Halliday Wine Companion.

"There’s plenty of sinew to this release. It’s cherry-berried with cranberried acidity, tomato bush characters and pink lipstick-like oak, but it’s the grainy, undergrowth-y tannin and the sweet-sour varietal drive of the fruit that really sets it up. This continues Montalto’s excellent run of form."

Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.

"A fabulous savoury drive is the highlight of this Montalto Merricks Pinot Noir… Sleek and silky, it rolls through with ease and just hangs leaving plenty to consider. Brilliant as you can expect from Simon Black.” Score 95/100.

"The 2023 Merricks Pinot Noir displays lovely concentration and freshness overlaid to a creamy palate, with sarsaparilla and cola nuances, raspberry seed and strawberry. The tannins feel paprika-speckled, with clove, cocoa, red apple and mint to close. This is a nice wine."

Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate.
