"Medium intense ruby colour. Lovely bright fruits combine with savoury/earthy qualities which have a beautiful interplay. Raspberries, morello cherry, rhubarb, violets, cola and some bushland fragrance on the nose.  Savoury and forest undergrowth flavours add extra dimension to the primary fruit qualities. In keeping with the rest of the 2013 Pinots, it has supple, fluid mouthfeel— enhanced by  fine-grained, clay-textured tannins and a dry spicy finish of excellent length."

Simon Black, Chief Winemaker.

REVIEWS

"Rich fruit – blueberry and dark cherry,  a little funk and stink, gentle cinnamon spice and caramel, floral top notes. Medium bodied, fine dusting of chalk-like texture, clean acidity and light herbal and fresh strawberry tang. Has a pretty long sweet spice dusted strawberry finish. Plenty going on here. Very good.”

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

WINEMAKING NOTES

This single vineyard Pinot comes from a vineyard 55 metres above sea level with grey loam over clay soil.

Always a generous wine and this year it shows wonderful complexity and drive. 2 tonne open fermenters were used and the fruit was allowed to soak for 7 days before the onset of wild fermentation. Ferment temperatures were allowed to peak at 32 degrees Celsius. A post ferment maceration of 6 days followed before pressing. The wine was lightly racked to French oak Puncheons (40% new) for natural malolactic fermentation and 11 months maturation.
