It's been an incredible year for Montalto's wine team. At the end of the wine show season, Montalto's winemaking team has amassed an impressive 18 trophies and 30 gold medals. And in a fitting end to one of our most successful seasons ever, the performance of Single Vineyard Tuerong Block Pinot Noir 2017 and Single Vineyard Tuerong Block Chardonnay 2017 at the 2018 Victorian Wine Show provided possibly the biggest thrill of all.
With Montalto scooping six awards in total at the event, including 'Best Wine of Show', the two wines from 'down the hill' achieved extraordinary results supported by a stellar win for Montalto Pennon Hill Shiraz 2017:
- Best Chardonnay: 2017 Single Vineyard Tuerong Chardonnay
- Best Pinot Noir: 2017 Single Vineyard Tuerong Pinot Noir
- Best White Wine: 2017 Single Vineyard Tuerong Chardonnay
- Best Red Wine: 2017 Single Vineyard Tuerong Pinot Noir
- Best Wine of Show: 2017 Single Vineyard Tuerong Pinot Noir
- Best Shiraz: 2017 Pennon Hill Shiraz
Montalto general manager, Anthony Jones, summed up the outstanding performance. "The Victorian Wine Show results are extraordinary by every measure. We have always rated the 2017 vintage excellent but it may well prove to be one of the best we’ve seen. The wines are beginning to unravel and reveal their secrets showing great poise, intensity and detail."
Winemaker Simon Black added, "These results are a reflection of the effort and commitment given by a devoted team who go above and beyond in pursuit of excellence."
While the 2017 vintage of our Tuerong Block Single Vineyard label is yet to be released, the 2016 Tuerong Block Chardonnay (James Halliday, 95 pts) and the 2016 Tuerong Block Pinot Noir (Trophy at the 2017 Best Pinot Noir Royal Hobart Wine Show, Gold Medal at the 2017 Royal Melbourne Wine Show and Gold Medal at the 2017 Royal Queensland Wine Show) are currently available to purchase online or at our cellar door.
