As the year slowly draws to a close, the Australian wine show calendar also comes to its conclusion. For Montalto, our participation in various local, national and international wine shows is driven by our desire for our wines to be measured against the best and most recognised wine producers in the world.
The 2018 Wine Shows have reaped extraordinary results for Montalto, bestowing an unprecedented 18 Trophies and 30 Gold Medals across the range thanks to the commitment and care of a dedicated viticulture and winemaking team.
Wine Show highlights for Montalto
Looking back at some of the highlights this year, it would be hard to go past the Small Vignerons Awards in Canberra. Montalto scooped the Trophy for Best Pinot Noir (for the fourth straight year) with the 2017 Estate Pinot Noir and the Trophy for Best Shiraz with our 2017 Pennon Hill Shiraz.
We also had a couple of great results at the Royal Adelaide Wine Show, with the 2017 Pennon Hill Pinot Noir and 2017 Pennon Hill Shiraz both taking out Gold Medals. This result, for us, really reinforces the message of the quality of our Pennon Hill label wines. In the case of shiraz, it is a tremendous achievement to go up against the heavy-weights of Australian shiraz on their home turf and bring home Gold!
On the international stage, Montalto also brought home the Best in Show award for the 2017 Estate Pinot Noir at the Decanter Asia Wine Awards. This show is open to producers from all over the world and really serves to bring great wine into the spotlight of consumers in Asia, which represents the world’s fastest-growing emerging wine market.
Looking ahead to next year’s releases, our 2017 Single Vineyard wines have already made an incredible impression with the wine show judges.
The 2017 Eleven Chardonnay has won two Gold Medals, and the 2017 Red Hill Block took home Gold at Melbourne.
But it's been the extraordinary performance of the 2017 Tuerong Block Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that has us most excited for this vintage. At the 2018 Victorian Wine Show, the 2017 Single Vineyard Tuerong Block Pinot Noir amassed three Trophies including 'Best Wine of Show' and the Tuerong Block Chardonnay secured two Trophies, including 'Best White Wine of Show', bringing their combined total for the year to 10 Trophies and seven gold medals.
