Montalto takes home Best Pinot and Best Shiraz at Royal Hobart Wine Show

The strong wine show results have continued for Montalto, winning two trophies at the recent Royal Hobart Wine Show.

Montalto won the Best Shiraz Trophy for the 2016 Pennon Hill Shiraz and the Best Pinot Noir Trophy for the 2016 Tuerong Block Pinot Noir.

The current release Pennon Hill Shiraz is a refined cool climate style displaying a complex array of spices, liquorice, blue and black fruits.

Just 234 cases were produced.

The 2016 Tuerong Block Pinot Noir is part of the Montalto Single Vineyard programme that aims to create the best expression from each site using vinification techniques that match Montalto style objectives and deliver the highest quality outcome.

The Montalto Single Vineyard Pinot Noir range also includes Merricks Block, Red Hill Block and Main Ridge Block wines.

“It’s humbling to win the trophy for both Best Pinot Noir and Best Shiraz at such a respected show,” said Montalto winemaker Simon Black.

“I think these wines are among the best that I’ve produced, and it’s particularly pleasing to win these awards given the quality of the other wines entered.”

The 2016 Tuerong Block Pinot Noir is scheduled for release in mid 2018.
