Montalto Sculpture Prize 2021 - entries now open

“We are very pleased to announce that Montalto is committed to the 2021 Montalto Sculpture Prize - our 19th annual Exhibition.

Due to the extraordinary circumstances over the last year, we have changed the timing for this year’s event:

1st July - Entries open for Montalto Sculpture Prize 2021

31st August - Entries close

10th September - Finalists notified

20th November - Montalto Sculpture Prize – Exhibition of Finalists opens with this year’s finalists in situ. The winner of the $40,000 Prize is announced.

The finalists will be on display (alongside our permanent collection) until 1st May 2022.

We are so excited to continue this opportunity for artists at Montalto. Now more than ever the arts are so important to our community. We believe that this new timing – with the exhibition running through the busy summer holiday season – will mean even more people will be able to enjoy the entries.” ~ Neil Williams, Montalto Creative Director.

The Montalto Sculpture Prize 2021 is an acquisitive sculpture prize among Australia's most valuable private sculpture prizes. 2021 is our 19th annual Exhibition and Prize!

Our first exhibition was in 2003, with 17 finalist artists competing for an $8,000 prize. From 2003 through 2020, we have exhibited 468 entries and awarded over $410,000 in prize money.

Open daily from 11 am – 5 pm, the permanent collection on our Sculpture Trail now consists of 33 sculptures and is one of the most visited attractions on the Mornington Peninsula. Sculpture is an integral part of life at Montalto and a highlight of any visit to the estate. The Montalto Vineyard Sculpture Trail winds its way through the property and the beautiful natural gallery provides diverse settings for the pieces. You might find monumental works sited in open spaces through to more intimate pieces amongst the wetlands and vines. We showcase our collection on our Facebook and Instagram pages via a “virtual sculpture tour” every Monday. You can also follow our hashtag: #montaltosculptureprize

We believe a visit to Montalto is an experience not to be forgotten. A moment out of the ordinary.

Pictured: Robert Hague – winner of the 2020 Montalto Sculpture Prize.

“I am honoured to have my work join the Montalto collection and also fortunate to have been given the perfect environment of undergrowth and trees, in a surprising kink in the sculpture trail, that encourages the sense of discovery for a work that is all about the archaeology of our recent history and what it means to be human. This work was a folly of good humour, a 10 foot broken dinner plate. I love the absurdity of it but more, the chance to reflect on our failure to embrace the inevitable failings and decline that besets us. We need to give ourselves a second chance.” ~ Robert Hague, winner of the 2020 Montalto Sculpture Prize.
