With school holidays officially over, the Peninsula continues to settle into a slightly quieter pace of life whilst we continue to enjoy the final weeks of late summer.
On the estate, the nets have been delicately placed across the vines, heavy with ever-ripening fruit. Before long, harvest will begin – the very busiest time of year for our wine team.
In the meantime, here’s what’s happening at Montalto this February…
Mark joined the management team at Montalto in 2021 after honing his craft at the Riverland Group and before that, the Rockpool Group. With experience both in Australia, and in his native London (where his identical twin still lives), Mark centralises his impressive suite of hospitality skills to work passionately with his team across all aspects of the customer journey at Montalto - from the welcome upon arrival, to final farewells. Dedicated to all things food and wine during the day, at night you can find Mark at one of the Peninsula's beautiful beaches, at the gym, or playing guitar in his jam band- with a glass of Montalto wine nearby at all times, of course.
Our 2008 Late Disgorged Cuvée has been a long time coming. Made in the ‘Méthode Traditionnelle’ style – the same way as Champagne - and on lees for 13 years, it’s no wonder this Cuvée shows intense aromas and powerful flavours. Nutty, with honey and pastry notes, close your eyes and take a sip, you’ll be hard pressed to ignore the feeling that you’ve just been whisked away to a French patisserie.

Being from London, it’s more common to see Pinot Grigio rather than Pinot Gris. We make the wine in the French winemaking style as Pinot Gris. Split 50/50 between tank and barrel fermentation, this is an exceptionally delectable wine. Complex yet approachable with mouth watering flavours of apple blossom, pear, coupled with a creamy texture and subtle spice notes for a delightful drop this summer.
If there is a wine that encapsulates summer in a bottle, it’s definitely Rosé. This particular wine is brand new to the Montalto portfolio. Simon (our Chief Winemaker), uses a technique called ‘juice stabulation’. Only a couple of decades old, this method has been adopted in the famed Provence region in France. Laborious and extremely gentle in its process, this technique aims to help maximise flavours and aromas in the extraction process, leaving the wine colour a beautiful pale hue.
Elegant, refined, notes of strawberry, honeydew and talc, this is definitely a wine to savor for summer.

Twilight at Montalto has been one of the great joys of this summer’s Saturday evenings. With the end of summer fast approaching, so too is the end of our twilight season with the final session on Saturday 25th February,
There’s no better place to relax in the afternoon, sun setting on the horizon, glass of wine in hand.
Walk ins are always welcome at Twilight, we hope to see you one Saturday afternoon soon!

On Tuesday 14th February, we invite you to make a reservation to enjoy a very special lunch overlooking the majesty of our sun-kissed estate from either The Restaurant (with an incredible Valentine’s Day set menu) or The Piazza.
One of the most peaceful ways to enjoy a moment out of the ordinary at Montalto is at one of ourprivate picnics sites-all of which have been specifically chosen for their unique and stunning locations.2023 marks our 21styear of picnics, we can confidently say we’re the experts.Picnics are available 7 days a week from 11am sharp. We also have Twilight Picnics from 4.30pm sharpevery Saturday until 25th February 2023.
We’re thrilled to continue our Books & Ideas events this year, in partnership with our friends at The Wheeler Centre. Our first event for 2023 is on sale now.

Join award-winning English author Geoff Dyer for lunch at Montalto to discuss his latest work, The Last Days of Roger Federer, with beloved ABC presenter and writer David Astle.
This year’s breathtaking exhibition runs until 30th April 2023 so ensure you leave plenty of time to wander the Sculpture Trail during your next visit to Montalto. All finalist’s works (except for our winner Marcus Tatton’s ‘Terestri Anenemi’)are for sale so if you see something you like so much you just have to take it home, please speak with any of our friendly team.
