Happy first day of summer! It’s time for sunshine and end of year celebrations, finally! Here’s what’s happening at Montalto this December…
Our Culinary Creative Director Matt Wilkinson needs no introduction – his love of good food, wine and company is legendary.
“This will be my 23rd Christmas in Australia and now, with two little hooligans and a wife in tow, Christmas is such a special family time. We do a long no-cook Christmas Day meal that doesn’t start till later in the afternoon, then on Boxing Day we fire up the charcoal pit and pizza oven for a massive feast that will include scallops, prawns, bugs, whiting and a few quails, all of which happens to go brilliantly with Simon's wines!”
“I love Rosé, there I've finally said it. Summer - but especially late afternoons - relaxing outside with a glass (or 3!) of the Pennon Hill Rosé is what summer is all about. Clean, mineral and delicate notes of summer fruits, Turkish delight, chilled till almost freezing, what a way to spend a summer's afternoon!”
"The 2022 Montalto Pinot Gris is drinking brilliantly. Another great warm weather drop that is perfect on its own, or marry with grilled sardines or salmon, tomato based pastas, a tuna niçoise salad or simply BBQ chicken.”
"Our Riesling tends to fly under the radar but Simon's slight hand with this delicious drop is truly incredible. Very little sweetness, this high mineral driven drop is again perfect chilled on its own, at the start of a meal (instead of sparkling) with oysters, cold meats and seafood, or match with most fish or white meats. But, in my opinion, it is best drunk with everyone's favourite: fish n chips (throw in a few cheeky dimmies with soy sauce!) shared with family and friends.
Summer on the Peninsula is just about as good as it gets – sunshine, blue skies, long days, warm nights, all surrounded by friends and family.
We’re open all summer, except for Christmas Day and Boxing Day! Pop in anytime to enjoy our new Lawn Bar – an exciting new addition to the estate with its very own casual menu too!

The response to our twilight announcement this year has been amazing – we’re almost fully booked already! There’s still a few spots available in The Piazza and The Cellar Door, and walk ins are always welcome! Twilight picnics have been very popular – book now to avoid disappointment!

This year’s breathtaking exhibition runs until 30th April 2023 so ensure you leave plenty of time to wander the Sculpture Trail during your next visit to Montalto.
