Concrete, steel
180 x 240 x 98cm
Acquired 2012
This work presents a kneeling figure supporting an expansive cloud-like form, cast in concrete and positioned on a gentle rise overlooking the surrounding gardens.
Its silhouette creates shifting shadows throughout the day, drawing attention to the relationship between the sculpture, light and open space.
The work introduces a human scale within the landscape, offering visitors a moment of pause as they move between the more elevated areas of the estate.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Phillip Doggett-Williams
Phillip Doggett-Williams is an Australian multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, painting, drawing and printmaking.
His work frequently examines the ways personal experience intersects with political, environmental and cultural narratives. He draws on both figurative and abstract language to explore themes of responsibility, identity and contemporary social conditions.
Doggett-Williams works with a range of materials including concrete, steel, timber and works on paper, often creating forms that sit between archetype and abstraction. His practice is shaped by early mentorship from George Baldessin, Graham King and Anthony Pryor, all of whom influenced his interest in modernist structure and symbolic figuration.
Recurring themes include societal vulnerability, the psychology of change, the weight of collective responsibility and the cultural forces that shape public discourse. His works are grounded in an interest in how fear, hope and agency manifest within communities.
