Permaculture is a holistic design system taking into account structures, energy, waste, resources, roads, nature, community, water, wild and domesticated animals, climate, and so on in an attempt to ensure these elements are efficient, cooperative and productive for the planet and its people.
The Montalto kitchen gardens have always been run using permaculture principles, organic pest management, companion planting and crop rotations. Our gardens flourish from our own compost application, resowing our saved heirloom seeds and crop rotations with an abundance of edible flowers to encourage nectar feeding pollinators and predator insects to keep our gardens in balance.
