From our prized Red Hill vineyard, the North One is a small block of clone MV6 planted adjacent to our esteemed Eleven Chardonnay block. This site produces wonderful aromatics and sublime structure. Florals, cherry, rhubarb, red currants, cranberry, raspberry with a pinch of pink peppercorn. The palate is juicy and moreish with mouth-coating red and blue fruit, plush velvet-like tannins and a long, expressive finish.
Simon Black, Chief Winemaker
At an elevation of 106m, this small northeast facing block of MV6 clone formed part of the original 1986 plantings. On skins for 23 days, matured for 9 months in French puncheons (29% new). The bouquet is redolent of warm oriental spices, introducing a supremely elegant palate and its lithe finish.
James Halliday, 2022
|The fruit was hand harvested and diligently sorted before destemming into 2 tonne open fermenters for a 7-day cold soak before the onset of wild fermentation. Ferment temperatures peaked at 32 degrees Celsius. A post ferment maceration of 6 days followed before pressing. The wine was lightly racked to French oak puncheons (29% new) for natural malolactic fermentation and 11 months maturation.|
