If you’ve dropped by the Montalto Cellar Door, good chance it was Mat who took you through a tasting. When he’s not exploring the local wineries, you’ll probably find Mat running on one of the tracks about the Peninsula. Mat’s tips are worth exploring even if your idea of a great weekend away includes zero exercise, you can always jump in the car and get there the easy way.

I live on the Western Port side of the Peninsula, and I love to run.  Anytime I spend running is refreshing, relaxing, rejuvenating and peaceful.

I love running on the Western Port Trail, a 26-kilometre path starting at Somerville and ending in Balnarring. The trail passes through many of the smaller townships on the Western Port side of the Peninsula including Tyabb, Bittern and Somers.

You also get to run through some of the Mornington Peninsula’s beautiful coastal and bush land like Lorna’s Triangle Natural Bushland Reserve and Coolart Wetlands Homestead, home to formal gardens, farmyard and displays.

The beauty of finishing the run in Balnarring is that I meet up with my wife Tara and my daughter Audrey and enjoy a coffee and one of the delicious pies at the Red Hill Bakery.
