Beth Crawford and Nick Powell always knew their Mornington Peninsula wedding would be special.
“But it was even better than we had hoped,” says Beth. The Melbourne couple recall a day they will cherish for the rest of their lives.
A “beautiful and peaceful” outdoor ceremony followed by photos and Champagne on the deck. At the reception there were poignant speeches from family and friends – and Beth and Nick’s first dance as a married couple.
Their 80 guests indulged in Montalto’s renowned food and wines. “It was all perfect,” said the radiant bride.
See what Beth means by watching the video below. It tells the story of Beth and Nick’s day – and provides a wonderful glimpse into why a Montalto wedding is just so special.
A fun, relaxing and sophisticated Peninsula wedding

Why did you decide to get married at Montalto?
Beth: We really wanted a non-traditional, fun and relaxed wedding day, so we popped down to Red Hill one weekend and had an unannounced coffee with Laura, the wonderful restaurant manager. She absolutely sold us on the venue with her down-to-earth and friendly nature.
We also didn’t want a huge wedding, so the 80 person capacity was perfect for us to fit our nearest and dearest. We also love our food and wine so Montalto’s incredible seasonal menu and great range of wine was right up our alley.
There aren’t many venues with such a high standard of food and wine, as well as being absolutely beautiful – it was a no brainer!
Tell us about the day – did it live up to your expectations?
Beth: It was even better than we had hoped. The ceremony was so beautiful and peaceful. Every part of the day was special and memorable, especially seeing each other for the first time on the day itself.
Also, hearing all of the speeches from our families, friends and each other – and our first dance as a married couple. It was all perfect!
Nick: The weather was beautiful all day. It rained a little bit during our dinner but that made for the most incredible rainbow.
The food was of such a high-standard. Everyone there commented that it was the best food they had eaten at a wedding.
Beth: Montalto’s event manager also surprised us by organising some ice water and Champagne to enjoy as we took our photos after the ceremony – a lovely touch.
Montalto also took the time to call Nick on the morning of the wedding just as a last minute update and reassurance that everything was on track – something Nick and I really appreciated.
As the setting for your big day, what does Montalto mean to you now?
Nick: Montalto was always a favourite destination restaurant of Beth’s parents. They would often pop down for the day to see what was on the menu.
Beth had lunch with her mum and dad one sunny afternoon and her mum cheekily mentioned that when the “time came” she and Nick should consider Montalto as a wedding venue. Beth’s mum passed away not too long after that, and her words stuck with Beth.
When we got engaged, it was the first place we thought of to get married. It is just the most beautiful restaurant with incredible food and service, and also a wonderful memory for Beth.
What would you say about the service provided by Montalto’s staff?
Beth: They were more than happy to answer any questions we had throughout the process, and were always ready with a solution or a suggestion.
The Montalto team were instrumental in helping us with the logistics around moving guests from one part of the vineyard to another. That allowed us to make the most of the phenomenal surrounds for different parts of the day.
The staff were also incredibly diligent throughout the food and drink service, with numerous people commenting how amazingly professional and personal the service was “for a wedding”.
We could not be more thankful to the entire Montalto team. They were fantastic.
What tips or advice would you give other couples considering a Montalto wedding?
Beth: Accommodation was nice and easy for our guests. A lot of our friends shared a few big houses together, and everyone managed to find a place to hire or stay.
We were lucky that a few of our friends live in the area or have holiday homes where people were able to stay. Most of our guests opted to spend the night on the Peninsula and meet us for a recovery drink on the Sunday!
Nick: We also organised buses for our guests back to their accommodation, which meant everyone was able to have a great time without worrying about how to get home.
Finally, do you have plans to visit Montalto again?
Nick: We’re definitely going back there soon. We plan on spending many wedding anniversaries to come in Red Hill.
Beth: Our families and ourselves also bought wine from the restaurant, and we plan on drinking it at many special events in the future. We’ll always feel a special connection to the vineyard and restaurant.
Thanks to Beth and Nick for sharing the story of their wonderful day.
