Montalto Riesling 2022

Mornington Peninsula

A single vineyard wine from 1.2 acres of vines planted in 1990 at our home vineyard in Red Hill South. Not usually recognised as a variety associated with the Mornington Peninsula, but Vineyard Manager, Dan Prior, loves the resilient growing qualities Riesling has to offer and its ability to deliver high-quality fruit year in, year out.

Intensely floral, think white flowers, jasmine, talc and apple blossom supported with white fleshed nectarine, loquats, lime and mandarin peel. Add in fresh nettles, fennel seed, wet stone, and some yeasty goodness. The palate shows generous textural qualities with a tight minerally finish and a tangy freshness.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Hand-harvested grapes were whole bunch pressed to stainless steel tanks followed by
cold settling to achieve a highly clarified juice. The juice was the racked (decanted) off
solids followed by inoculation with the yeast strain QA23. Fermentation temperatures
were controlled between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius until dry. Every effort was made to
preserve varietal character and freshness.
