‘’Lemon curd, white peach, grapefruit, flint and slate notes, white florals, oatmeal with a curious touch of Life Saver’s fruit tingles. There are some gentle oak aromas by the way of brioche just to round out the package. The palate is juicy, almost quenching. Lots of white peach and a collage of citrus, moreish acidity, together with a mineral lick and a savouriness reminiscent of miso. The mid-palate is weighted, with a structural presence and textural framework. This is a delicious Chardonnay with hallmark Pennon Hill qualities exhibiting great varietal definition and regional expression.''

Simon Black, Chief Winemaker.

REVIEWS

"Pennon Hill always delivers good value and quality, this chardonnay another case in point. A combo of lemon, grapefruit and white stone fruit all lightly spiced, while the palate is layered with creamed honey-like lees and ginger fluff cake, oak spices and juicy acidity. Nice drinking here, folks.”
Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion.

"Nectarine, almond cream, a little spice and mint. It’s tight but juicy, white fleshed fruit with a grapefruity acidity, a creaminess too, and flinty texture, finish is long and bursts with some intensity of acid and Chardonnay flavour. Very nice.”

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front.

"One of the best value Chardonnays going around, this Montalto Pennon Hill punches well above its price point. The victim of a couple of weather impacted vintages, it hasn't been sighted for a couple of years so it's great to see it hit the tasting bench once more. Long and super satisfying, yeah, this is super drinking for the money.” Score 95/100.

WINEMAKING NOTES

Hand harvested fruit is whole bunch pressed directly to French oak barriques and
puncheons (23% new). A considered amount of solids is maintained in the ferment.
Following wild fermentation, natural malolactic fermentation brings the natural acidity
back into check and the wine is then left to mature on lees; stirred when appropriate
following appraisal to enhance flavour and texture. The wine is aged for 9 months in
oak prior to blending and bottling.
