2010 Pennon Hill Rose
Our Pennon Hill wines display true varietal character and sub regional quality, designed for immediate consumption with hints of cellaring potential.
This wine has been crafted from classic “Pinot” varieties, the noble grape of the Peninsula
- Pinot Meunier – (58%) – providing structure to help blend all varieties together
- Pinot Noir – (38%) – providing red fruit flavours with savoury qualities
- Pinot Gris – (4%) – providing lifted aromatics candied apple
Vineyard
These varieties were sourced from two of our vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula. The cool climate of the Peninsula provides an extended ripening period producing grapes with high natural acidity and intense fruit weight. Our careful attention to detail in the vineyard, by way of parcel selection and harvest criteria followed by meticulous winemaking practices ensures the highest level of wine quality is achieved.

Vintage
After a dream growing season with even temperatures and no heat spikes, like what we saw in 2009, all varieties were harvested in early March in ideal conditions – before the onset of mid vintage rains. The cool, steady vintage has resulted in delicate, balanced flavours, with fine natural acidity.
Winemaking
The Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes were destemmed, crushed and macerated on skins for 8 hours before pressing to facilitate colour and flavour extraction. Following pressing, the juice was cold settled and later racked off gross lees. The clean juice was fermented at low temperatures to enhance the aromatics of the wines. At the completion of fermentation, the wine was stabilized and bottled early to preserve freshness. A small portion of Pinot Gris was back-blended to add some additional texture to the palate.
